Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh confirmed on Monday that seven members of a militant group were detained for questioning in connection with the killing of two migrant labourers from Bihar. The two teenage construction workers were shot dead on Saturday evening in Kakching district, Manipur. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
The incident has sparked widespread concern, and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed his sorrow over the deaths, announcing a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the victims.
In a statement made during the Vijay Diwas celebrations, Singh suggested that the killings may have been politically motivated, stating that the authorities are actively interrogating the detained individuals to determine their involvement. “We will definitely find out the culprit,” Singh assured the public.
On Vijay Diwas, Singh also paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 war for the liberation of Bangladesh. He honored the brave soldiers, including those from Manipur, who contributed to India’s victory and the liberation of Bangladesh. Singh reaffirmed India’s commitment to national unity and progress in his tribute.
This ongoing investigation continues to draw attention to the safety of migrant workers in the region and the political undercurrents influencing such tragic events.
