The Anglican Alliance has launched a new resource to help churches better support migrants, refugees, and internally displaced people worldwide. Developed in partnership with advocacy representatives from the Anglican Communion Office, the guide responds to growing demand from churches seeking practical ways to engage with migration issues.
Called People on the Move is a resource that guides key areas such as mental health, legal assistance, safeguarding, child protection, pastoral care, and advocacy. It aims to equip church leaders and congregations with tools to respond effectively to the challenges faced by people on the move.
The initiative comes at a time when global displacement continues to rise. Millions of people are being forced to leave their homes due to conflict, poverty, climate change, and persecution. The Anglican Alliance notes that migration is a complex issue affecting communities worldwide and requires both global and local responses.
Speaking on the launch, Rob Dawes, executive director of the Anglican Alliance, emphasized that migration is deeply connected to the mission of the church. He explained that churches across different regions—from Africa and the Middle East to Asia and Latin America—are already supporting migrants in various ways.
The resource highlights how churches can provide direct help, including shelter, counseling, and spiritual care, while also advocating for fair migration policies. It encourages faith communities to respond with compassion and uphold the dignity of migrants, regardless of their background.
Across the Anglican Communion, churches have long played a role in assisting vulnerable groups. Their work includes supporting refugees, tackling human trafficking, and addressing the root causes of migration, such as poverty and conflict.
The new guide also promotes collaboration between churches and local communities to ensure that support efforts are inclusive and effective. By strengthening local capacities, the initiative aims to create safer and more supportive environments for both migrants and host communities.
As migration continues to shape societies worldwide, the Anglican Alliance says the guide will help churches respond in a more informed, coordinated, and compassionate way—turning faith into practical action for those in need.
