The Australian government has allocated $3.5 million (A$5.4 million) to extend the Health in My Language (HiML) program, which aims to improve health literacy among migrant and refugee women.
This funding will allow the Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health to continue running the initiative across all states and territories through 2025–2026. The program ensures that health education sessions are delivered in participants’ native languages, making critical health information more accessible and culturally inclusive.
By breaking language barriers, the initiative helps migrant and refugee women gain better awareness of health services, empowering them to make informed medical decisions. This investment highlights Australia’s commitment to supporting the well-being of diverse communities.
Why is this important?
Migrant and refugee women often face challenges in accessing healthcare due to language and cultural barriers. Programs like HiML play a vital role in improving health outcomes by providing crucial education in a way that is easy to understand and apply.
