Indonesia’s National Police (Polri) and the Ministry of Migrant Workers’ Protection are intensifying their cooperation to ensure the safety and rights of Indonesian workers overseas.
In a recent meeting at Polri Headquarters in Jakarta, Polri Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Minister Abdul Kadir Karding discussed a joint strategy to tackle illegal departures and human trafficking involving migrant workers. Prabowo emphasized Polri’s strong support for the ministry’s programs, which aim to protect Indonesian workers and address the challenges they face abroad.
A key initiative discussed was the creation of a special desk to handle issues related to migrant workers. This desk will serve as a platform for reporting problems, managing complaints, and evaluating law enforcement actions. Prabowo assured that Polri is ready to take decisive action against those involved in illegal activities, including human trafficking.
Minister Karding highlighted the ongoing exploitation and injustice faced by Indonesian workers abroad, much of which is linked to human trafficking networks. He expressed his gratitude for Polri’s commitment to addressing these issues legally and stressed the importance of dismantling trafficking networks to protect workers.
Both Polri and the Ministry emphasized the need for preventive measures to reduce risks for migrant workers. By strengthening their collaboration, they aim to create a safer environment for Indonesians seeking work abroad.
This enhanced partnership demonstrates Indonesia’s dedication to addressing the complex challenges of migrant worker safety and human trafficking, offering hope for improved protection and justice for its citizens.
