The Indonesian government has praised the nation’s migrant workers as “heroes of foreign exchange,” highlighting their vital role in supporting the country’s economy. Speaking at the National Heroes Day commemoration in Jakarta, P2MI Minister Mukhtarudin described migrant workers as “foreign exchange fighters” who contribute significantly to national growth while striving for a better life abroad.

Mukhtarudin emphasized that these workers deserve recognition not only for their perseverance in supporting themselves and their families but also for the foreign exchange earnings they generate for Indonesia. “The contribution of migrant workers as a driver of foreign exchange will remain a key pillar of national progress,” he said.

The government also encouraged returning migrant workers to leverage their experiences and develop into independent and successful entrepreneurs, contributing further to the national economy.

In addition, P2MI launched a Financial Education Pocketbook aimed at improving financial literacy among migrant workers. The guide is designed to help them manage their earnings wisely while working abroad, promoting better planning and economic empowerment.

Minister Mukhtarudin noted that the pocketbook will serve as a practical tool for Indonesian migrant workers, ensuring they can make the most of their income and build a secure future for themselves and their families.

The initiative reflects Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to recognize the strategic role of migrant workers and provide them with resources to thrive both abroad and upon their return home.
