The Indonesian government has warned its citizens to be careful when considering overseas job offers, emphasizing that unverified or misleading opportunities can put workers at serious risk. Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar urged the public to always verify job offers before accepting them. He spoke during the SMK Go Global workshop in Bandung, advising people to prepare carefully and avoid falling for false promises.
Minister Muhaimin highlighted that many job offers circulating online point to destinations that may be illegal, such as Cambodia. He cautioned that some offers spread through unofficial social media channels like Facebook and Instagram are particularly risky. Citizens should instead rely on formal sources for accurate information.
“Use all available information channels, especially official ones from the private sector or the Ministry of P2MI,” he said. The ministry oversees migrant worker protection and ensures that overseas employment procedures are safe, legal, and transparent.
Earlier, Mukhtarudin, Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), emphasized that the government’s main focus is on protecting migrant workers rather than simply increasing deployment numbers. He explained that most issues faced by workers arise during recruitment, highlighting the need for careful oversight from the very beginning.
To prevent problems, the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Centers (BP3MI) are tasked with monitoring registration, selection, and placement processes. Mukhtarudin stressed that no BP3MI staff member should engage in collusion or allow unqualified or noncompliant applicants to proceed. Transparency and compliance with official procedures are essential for safe overseas employment.
President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that protection measures cover the entire migration process—from pre-departure preparation to employment abroad and post-placement support. Officials say that these comprehensive safeguards are crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of migrant workers.
