The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Kenya and Kenya Airways (KQ) have joined forces in a new partnership to combat human trafficking and support safe migration routes. This collaboration shows a strong commitment from both organizations to protect travelers and migrants, reducing their risk of exploitation.

Ms. Dimanche Sharon, IOM Chief of Mission Kenya, emphasized the significance of this partnership, saying, “This collaboration highlights our commitment to protecting travelers and migrants from trafficking risks. Partnering with Kenya Airways allows us to expand IOM’s reach and effectiveness, ensuring safer migration for all.”

The MOU outlines several measures to identify and mitigate trafficking, as well as to facilitate and promote regular migration pathways. This initiative aligns with IOM’s strategic priority to enhance regular pathways through a comprehensive societal approach to migration, involving partnerships and private sector engagement.

Kenya Airways’ Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Allan Kilavuka, emphasized the airline’s commitment to this cause, saying, “Our collaboration with IOM Kenya reflects our corporate social responsibility and our dedication to the well-being of all travelers. We are committed to equipping our staff with the necessary training and resources to support migrants, especially those in vulnerable situations.”

Under the MOU, Kenya Airways staff will receive specialized training from IOM to better identify, respond to, and coordinate assistance for travelers and migrants. Joint efforts will also be made to advocate for policies that create a safer and more regular travel environment for migrants. A framework for sharing information between the airline and IOM will be established to enhance traveler assistance.

This collaboration unites IOM Kenya’s expertise in migrant protection and labor mobility with Kenya Airways, which transports over 5 million passengers annually to more than 45 destinations worldwide. By combining resources and knowledge, the two organizations aim to create a safer and more structured migration process.
