President Donald Trump has announced that his administration is developing a new plan to issue temporary passes to migrant workers in the agricultural and hospitality industries. This move comes after strong concerns from employers who rely on migrant labour but fear losing workers due to ongoing deportation efforts.

Speaking on Fox News, Trump said he wants to protect farmers and hotel owners from the damage caused when long-time workers are suddenly taken away. He explained that many of these workers have been in the U.S. for years, performing demanding jobs that many Americans are unwilling to do. While Trump said he still supports strong immigration laws, he also said farmers should have a say in who they employ.

“I support our farmers. When someone has worked on a farm for 15 to 20 years, it’s not right to remove them all at once,” Trump said. “We’re planning something that gives the farmer more control. They know who they hire.”

He added that this temporary pass would allow migrant workers to continue their jobs legally while also paying taxes. The idea is to help industries that heavily depend on these workers without fully stopping immigration enforcement.

Earlier this month, Trump acknowledged that immigration raids were hurting businesses, especially farms and hotels. As a result, there was a brief pause in deportations in those areas. However, some confusion followed after administration officials said enforcement would continue, but more selectively.

Trump later said that reputable employers should be allowed to take responsibility for their workers. “We can’t destroy our farms by removing all the workers,” he said. “We’re working on a fair solution.”

This proposed pass is still in development, but Trump made it clear that he’s trying to find a balance between strong immigration policies and keeping key industries running.
