The United Kingdom has issued a fresh warning to Nigerians and other migrants, saying anyone caught working without proper authorisation will be arrested, detained, and deported. The warning comes as the UK intensifies immigration enforcement nationwide.

According to UK authorities, enforcement actions against illegal workers have increased sharply, with immigration raids now at record levels. Officials said workplace inspections are being intensified, especially in sectors known to employ migrant labour.

In a statement shared on social media on Friday, the UK Home Office said those found working illegally would face immediate consequences. “Those caught working illegally in the UK will be arrested, detained and removed,” the Home Office wrote.

The government stated that illegal employment damages the UK’s labour market and puts lawful workers at a disadvantage. Authorities stressed that strict action is necessary to protect legal jobs and ensure employers follow immigration and employment laws.

The warning is part of the UK’s tougher border and labour enforcement policies, which have led to more frequent raids and checks nationwide. Immigration Enforcement teams have been given wider powers to identify and detain individuals who breach visa or work permit conditions.

The development is expected to cause concern among migrant communities, including Nigerians living in the UK. Many migrants rely on informal work due to visa restrictions, making them more vulnerable under the current crackdown.

UK officials have advised migrants to ensure they have the correct visa and work authorisation to avoid arrest, detention, and removal from the country.
