More than 104,000 people have been displaced inside Yemen as fighting continues in parts of the country, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix recorded 104,796 internally displaced people across 17,461 households as of September 16, 2026. The agency said violence along Yemen’s West Coast continues to drive people from their homes, while humanitarian needs are increasing.

The number of people crossing from Yemen into Djibouti has also reached 2,776, according to the latest available data. IOM teams are providing emergency assistance to people arriving in Djibouti, including 1,500 hot meals twice a day.

“Yemen is a country torn by war, displacement, poverty, and climate impacts,” IOM Director General Amy Pope said. She warned that the suffering of civilians should not be overlooked as humanitarian needs continue to grow.

Aid organisations face difficulties keeping track of population movements as families flee areas affected by fighting. Some are reportedly moving at night and leaving with only the belongings they can carry.

Taiz has recorded the largest number of displaced people. More than 63,000 people have been displaced across the governorate, with Jabal Habashi accounting for 21,018 people, followed by Al Ma’afer with 12,642 and Ash Shamayatayn with 8,250.

Lahj has recorded nearly 26,400 displaced people. Al Madaribah Wa Al Aarah accounts for almost 19,000 of those displacements.

Aden has recorded more than 3,500 displaced people, while Al Abyan, Hadramawt and Ma’rib are also experiencing increasing population movements as insecurity spreads.

IOM is responding through its Rapid Response Mechanism, shelter and non-food item assistance, and protection services. The organisation is also using its Displacement Tracking Matrix to monitor movements and provide data to support humanitarian planning.

IOM currently operates in Aden, Ma’rib, Lahj and South Taiz and says it can deploy teams to other accessible areas when required.

Since the beginning of the latest displacement response, IOM’s Rapid Response Mechanism and Cash-Based Interventions teams have registered and assisted 1,159 households with in-kind support. Emergency multi-purpose cash assistance is also continuing despite growing restrictions on humanitarian access.

The agency is providing non-food items to 460 families and shelter assistance to 449 households.

Protection services have also been provided to 758 people in Ma’rib, Aden and Lahj as risks increase for vulnerable communities, including internally displaced people and migrants.

IOM is also managing the emergency WASH pipeline in Yemen. IOM has pre-positioned around 8,000 water, sanitation and hygiene kits in Aden and Ma’rib, which can be deployed within 72 hours when required.

The organisation co-leads Yemen’s Refugees and Migrants Multi-Sector response and the national Rapid Response Mechanism. It also manages the Humanitarian Hub in Ma’rib, which hosts eight United Nations agencies.

IOM further co-leads the Shelter, Land and Site Management Cluster and the WASH Cluster and participates in coordination mechanisms covering cash assistance and markets.

The agency is calling on donors to provide additional funding as displacement continues and humanitarian needs rise.

With fighting continuing in several areas, IOM expects further population movements and says it will continue monitoring the situation and providing assistance where access is possible.
