Indonesia’s Minister of Migrant Workers Protection, Mukhtarudin, has linked the spirit of Eid al-Adha to the need for stronger protection and better welfare for Indonesian migrant workers around the world.
Speaking during the Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri celebration in Jakarta, the minister said the meaning of qurban, or sacrifice, teaches sincerity, faith, and care for others. He explained that these values should guide the ministry’s work in protecting migrant workers.
According to Mukhtarudin, the spirit of sacrifice must become a real commitment to serve Indonesian workers abroad with sincerity and dedication. He described migrant workers as “Ambassadors of the Nation” because of their contribution to their families and the country’s economy.
The minister also sent Eid greetings to Muslims across the world, especially Indonesian migrant workers celebrating the festival far from home. He acknowledged the emotional difficulty of spending an important religious celebration away from family members and loved ones.
Mukhtarudin said he understands the sacrifices many migrant workers make while working overseas. He praised their commitment to supporting their families back in Indonesia and described their efforts as noble and valuable to the nation.
He further explained that the Eid al-Adha season should motivate the ministry to speed up important programs focused on migrant worker welfare. These include improving overseas job placement systems, strengthening legal protection, and increasing welfare support for workers and their families.
The minister added that the values of social solidarity connected to qurban can help strengthen unity among Indonesians living both at home and abroad. He expressed hope that the spirit of sacrifice would bring peace, blessings, and safety to migrant workers worldwide.
Indonesia has continued to place migrant worker protection high on its national agenda as millions of Indonesians work in countries across Asia, the Middle East, and other regions. The government has recently increased discussions around safer migration systems and stronger legal support for workers overseas.
