More than 1,500 migrant workers gathered in Singapore on Sunday to watch the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup during a communal Iftar event organized by telecommunications company StarHub.

The event took place at the Tee Up Dormitory, where workers from different countries came together to break their Ramadan fast while watching the highly anticipated cricket match between India national cricket team and the New Zealand national cricket team.

StarHub volunteers distributed meals to residents observing Iftar, with both Muslim and non-Muslim workers participating in the gathering. The live screening allowed the dormitory residents to experience the excitement of the tournament together in a shared community setting.

During the match, India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs, securing the championship and lifting the T20 World Cup trophy for a third time. The victory was celebrated enthusiastically by many of the workers watching the game.

According to StarHub, the initiative was part of the company’s broader corporate social responsibility program aimed at creating inclusive community experiences for migrant workers and other underserved groups in Singapore.

In addition to the match screening and communal meal, the company also set up an on-site prepaid connectivity booth. The booth offered affordable SIM card options to help migrant workers stay connected with their families and access digital services that support their daily lives.

Organizers said the event reflects efforts to bring major live sporting moments beyond private homes and into shared community spaces where migrant workers can gather, socialize, and participate in popular cultural events together.
