BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has confirmed that it will offer death benefits and educational scholarships to the children of Nurhayati, an Indonesian migrant worker who tragically lost her life in Malaysia. This support underscores the organization’s commitment to protecting active participants in its program.
Nurhayati, a 38-year-old woman from Gitgit Village in Bali, was reportedly a victim of violence before her death. The news of her passing spread widely on social media, with her relative, Srimulyani Devi, calling for donations to help bring her body back to Indonesia.
According to Nelson Hasudungan, the head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan in Buleleng, Nurhayati had been officially registered in the program through an authorized recruitment agency. This status ensures her family will receive financial compensation and scholarships for her children.
Scholarships will be provided based on the children’s education level. For kindergarten and elementary school, the scholarship is IDR 1.5 million per year. For junior high school, it is IDR 2 million annually, while high school students receive IDR 3 million. For college-level education, the amount increases to IDR 12 million per year.
The Acting Head of the Buleleng Manpower Office, Made Juartawan, stated that his team is coordinating with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and other relevant agencies to ensure the swift release of funds. He noted that the money is urgently needed by the family, especially for funeral expenses.
