The Ministry of Migrant Workers Protection in Jakarta has begun preparing evacuation scenarios for Indonesian migrant workers in the Middle East following rising tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Minister Mukhtarudin said the government is simulating evacuation plans and considering suspending worker placements in high-risk areas. According to him, these preventive steps are necessary to anticipate further escalation of the conflict.
“We have prepared various scenarios, including evacuation and restricted placements. All steps are based on factual information, diplomatic coordination, and precautionary principles,” Mukhtarudin said in a written statement on March 3, 2026.
Since tensions increased at the end of February, the government has activated a crisis management mechanism. The ministry has formed a geopolitical crisis monitoring team to track real-time data on thousands of Indonesian migrant workers in affected countries.
Special attention is being given to areas reportedly impacted by attacks, including Qatar and nearby locations close to military installations. The monitoring team is tasked with updating risk assessments and identifying vulnerable zones to ensure faster response if needed.
Mukhtarudin explained that the ministry is coordinating closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian embassies in Tehran, Riyadh, Doha, and Abu Dhabi. This coordination aims to synchronize data, strengthen communication channels, and prepare contingency plans.
The government has urged Indonesian migrant workers in the region to avoid conflict zones, military bases, and other potentially dangerous areas. Workers are advised to relocate to safer places if necessary and to follow official guidance from Indonesian representatives abroad.
Authorities also called on families and the wider public to remain calm and rely only on verified information from official channels. Migrant workers are encouraged to report emergencies immediately through designated communication platforms.
Mukhtarudin assured that every report would be followed up through established support and advocacy mechanisms. He stressed that the government remains committed to protecting the rights and safety of Indonesian migrant workers during this period of geopolitical uncertainty.
