President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Rodney S. Scott and Caleb Vitello to lead key agencies as part of his intensified immigration policies. Scott, a former Border Patrol chief from Trump’s first term, will head Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Vitello, an experienced Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official, will serve as acting director of ICE.

In his announcement, Trump commended Scott for his role in enforcing border security during his previous term, including implementing key policies that reduced immigration. Scott was removed from his position by the Biden administration in 2021 but has since been vocal about border security issues, criticizing the Biden administration’s policies.

Scott played a significant role in controversial actions, such as authorizing the use of tear gas against migrants near the San Diego border and deploying agents to protests in Portland, Oregon, in 2020. Trump praised Scott for his dedication to securing the border and his ongoing efforts to educate the public on border security.

Caleb Vitello, who has extensive experience with ICE, will oversee Trump’s planned deportation initiatives. Trump described Vitello as an excellent choice to enhance safety by addressing issues related to undocumented immigrants in the U.S. ICE has not had a Senate-confirmed leader in years, and Vitello’s appointment comes as Trump pushes for mass deportations to enforce immigration laws.

Both appointments reflect Trump’s commitment to strict immigration policies and his reliance on experienced officials who align with his vision for border security and immigration enforcement.
