Ria Money Transfer has officially launched its new Ria Wallet app in Malaysia, a financial tool aimed at supporting unbanked migrant workers. This new app is designed to provide accessible digital financial services such as money transfers, QR code payments, remittances, and digital wage disbursement.

Approved by the Department of Labour under the Ministry of Human Resources, the Ria Wallet is a step toward financial inclusion for workers who often lack access to traditional banking services. The app allows users to receive their wages directly into their digital wallets and perform everyday financial transactions with ease.

To ensure ease of access, Ria has combined both digital and physical support. With 78 Ria stores across Malaysia, migrant workers can complete onboarding in person if needed. Additionally, the wallet includes semi-digital options where users can make over-the-counter payments without needing a smartphone.

Ramesh Chaulagain, Country Manager of Ria Money Transfer Malaysia, explained that the company’s main goal is to add value to the lives of migrants by helping them send their hard-earned money home safely and affordably. He emphasized Ria’s unique “omni-experience” that combines digital and physical financial support.

Migrant users can also make free withdrawals from any of the 1,400 ATMs deployed nationwide by Ria’s parent company, Euronet. The Ria Wallet connects to a massive global network of 624,000 locations, enabling smooth international money transfers.

“We aim to offer as many free services as possible to encourage migrant workers to actively use the wallet for their money transfers,” said Fahad Rehman, Senior Director of Digital Wallets at Ria.

Importantly, the Ria Wallet is fully regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia. It holds an official e-money licence and complies with the central bank’s cybersecurity and electronic know-your-customer (eKYC) requirements. This makes it both secure and easy for migrant workers to sign up.

The wallet also includes multi-language support to ensure accessibility for all nationalities working in Malaysia. Ria understands that many migrant workers may not be tech-savvy, so the user journey has been simplified to accommodate their needs.

Ria, founded in New York in 1987, now operates in 160 countries through over half a million physical locations. With this latest digital expansion, the company is continuing its mission to make financial services easier and more inclusive for underserved populations.
