Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet has announced that the country is fully prepared to handle a possible mass return of Cambodian migrant workers from Thailand. His statement, made on June 14 through official social media, reassured the nation that all key government agencies are on high alert and ready to respond quickly if needed.

Hun Manet said that ministries, border security forces, and local authorities in provinces along the Thai border have already been instructed to coordinate support measures. These include temporary shelters, basic supplies like food and water, and safe travel arrangements for workers crossing back into Cambodia.

“If a large-scale return of Cambodian workers from Thailand occurs—regardless of the reason—the Royal Government of Cambodia has already prepared all necessary measures to manage the situation,” Hun Manet emphasized.

In seven provinces along the border, local administrators are now working closely with border protection teams. They are ensuring smooth and safe cross-border travel through key checkpoints. Nearby shelters have already been stocked with essential items to assist those who may return suddenly.

To support smooth relocation, the Ministry of National Defence and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces are teaming up with officials from Phnom Penh. Together, they have organized transportation services that will help returning workers travel from the border to their home provinces safely and efficiently.

The government is also focusing on job support. The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has stepped in to help returnees find work within the country. According to Hun Manet, more than 70,000 job vacancies are available across multiple industries in Cambodia, offering a wide range of employment opportunities for those coming back from Thailand.

This proactive approach comes amid growing concerns about regional instability, changing labor policies, and stricter immigration controls in neighboring countries. Many Cambodians work in Thailand’s agriculture, construction, and service sectors, making the two countries closely connected through cross-border labor.

The Cambodian government’s preparedness is seen as a strong signal that it is taking the welfare of its migrant citizens seriously. Officials are urging workers and families to stay informed and cooperate with local authorities during this period of uncertainty.
