Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has strongly criticised the recent anti-migrant raids in the United States, pledging full support for Mexican citizens living in the neighbouring country.
Speaking at a press conference, Sheinbaum described the raids as “deeply unfair” and warned they could cause serious harm to the US economy. According to official figures, between January 20 and August 1, over 75,900 Mexicans were deported from the United States.
This is not the first time Sheinbaum has spoken out on the matter. In July 2025, she condemned immigration raids targeting migrant farm workers, calling the actions unjust and damaging to both countries. Following recent operations in California, she confirmed that staff from Mexican consulates are visiting detention centres to identify how many Mexican nationals have been detained and ensure they receive necessary assistance.
Sheinbaum’s strong position shows Mexico’s promise to protect its citizens living abroad, especially as the US increases immigration checks. Her government advises migrant workers to know their rights and contact consular offices immediately if they are detained.
