Two men lost their lives, and a third is in critical condition after two shootings occurred minutes apart near a migrant shelter in Brooklyn, police and law enforcement sources reported. The incidents unfolded late Sunday night, causing significant alarm and prompting a swift investigation by authorities.

The first shooting took place around 10:44 p.m. in a park near Flushing Avenue and Steuben Street, outside the Brooklyn Navy Yard. A man in his 30s was shot in the chest and arm. He was immediately transported to Methodist Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Just seven minutes later, a second shooting occurred outside the migrant shelter at 29 Ryerson Street, less than a quarter of a mile from the initial incident. In this attack, a 47-year-old man was shot in the head and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Another victim, also in his 30s, was critically injured after being shot multiple times and is currently fighting for his life in the hospital.

Preliminary information from law enforcement sources indicates that all the victims were migrants, and the shootings appear to be connected. Detectives are investigating whether members of the Venezuelan gang, El Tren de Aragua, who are known to ride mopeds, were involved in these attacks. No arrests have been made as of early Monday.

The migrant shelter on Ryerson Street, which opened in April, was established by the city to house up to 765 single adult migrants. The recent violence has raised concerns about safety in the area, highlighting the challenges faced by both migrants and local authorities.
