The East Coast Migrant Head Start Project (ECMHSP) is commemorating its 50 years of dedication to farmworker families on the Eastern Shore. The milestone event will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sawmill Park in Accomack, Virginia. For five decades, ECMHSP has been committed to nurturing, educating, and empowering children from migrant families, providing essential early childhood education for those aged 6 weeks to 5 years at its campuses in Cheriton and Parksley.

The event will be a special occasion to honour the contributions of community partners and ECMHSP staff who have been instrumental in supporting farmworker families. Among the notable guests and speakers will be Shenay Wharton, a licensed professional counselor, along with local officials such as Rev. Calvin L. Washington, Sr. from the Accomack County Board of Supervisors, Gabi Ramirez from the Virginia Department of Health, and Sheryl Savage-Kellam from Northampton County’s Division of Social Services. The celebration will also acknowledge ECMHSP staff who have dedicated five or more years of service and those who have achieved advanced degrees.

The festivities will include a DJ and a range of lawn and table games for attendees to enjoy. In addition to the entertainment, guests will be treated to food catered by Mimi’s Bold and Beautiful Creations, with desserts provided by Chellz Sweet Treatz. The event aims to create a fun and memorable experience for all, celebrating the organization’s significant achievements and its impact on the community over the years.

As ECMHSP marks this significant milestone, the event will reflect on its journey and the positive changes it has brought to the lives of countless children and families. The organization’s commitment to providing high-quality early childhood education and support to migrant families has been a cornerstone of its mission.

Throughout its history, ECMHSP has played a crucial role in addressing the needs of farmworker families, helping to ensure that their children receive the best possible start in life. The 50th-anniversary celebration will not only honor past accomplishments but also highlight the ongoing efforts to continue making a difference in the lives of those it serves.

The event will serve as a reminder of the importance of community support and collaboration in achieving shared goals. By recognizing the contributions of its partners and staff, ECMHSP aims to strengthen its ties with the community and reaffirm its commitment to its mission.

Overall, the celebration promises to be a vibrant and joyous occasion, bringing together those who have supported and benefited from ECMHSP’s work over the years. It will be a time to reflect on the organization’s achievements and look forward to its continued impact in the future.
