The Rivers State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. George Mfongang, has expressed concern over the increasing trend of Nigerian graduates migrating abroad in search of better opportunities. Speaking during a visit from the Rivers State Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mrs. Nwamaka Ikediashi, Mfongang emphasized the potential Nigeria holds for its young graduates and called on citizens to be patriotic and work towards making the country better.

The discussion took place in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, where Ikediashi sought collaboration with NYSC to sensitize corps members about the risks associated with illegal migration. She highlighted the dangers faced by young graduates who fall prey to fake agencies and agents promising lucrative opportunities abroad, only to end up in situations of exploitation such as prostitution, drug trafficking, slave labor, or even organ harvesting.

Mfongang advised Ikediashi to direct her request for sensitization efforts to the NYSC headquarters through NAPTIP’s central office. He assured that corps members in Rivers State would benefit from the awareness programs if incorporated into the NYSC’s nationwide orientation timetable.

Ikediashi emphasized NAPTIP’s dedication to partnering with NYSC to stop young graduates from being drawn into illegal migration, highlighting the importance of protecting them from the serious risks involved.
